The Milford Etchells Fleet: Fleet 30-Milford-LIS, was chartered in 2001, the fleet sails from Milford Yacht Club, (directions) Milford, CT. Fleet Captain Greg Geiger works continuously to provide education and practice sessions for prospective crew and up-coming skippers. The fleet has Milford YC sponsored races on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Each Spring fleet members start sailing in April. Our race area is: click here.
Etchells Sailing and Etchells History, the first fleet is formed:The boat is 30' 6" LOL, full of power! Though powerful and fast, the Etchells can be sailed competitively and comfortably by three average sailors in virtually all conditions. You will find the Etchells a brilliant performer. It can tack in through 70 degrees, and with a low wetted surface hull-form, it is one of the fastest light-air boats on the water. In 20+ knots, the boat absolutely flies!!! The Etchells is simple. Because she is easily driven, the Etchells carries a relatively small sail-plan which is easy to manage. There is a marked absence of elaborate mast mechanisms, complex sail controls and deck gadgetry. The Etchells is not a boat dominated by gear.
Milford Etchells Fleet Members:Fleet 30 has a fun group of members! While we all enjoy the spirit of the race, sitting in the MYC lounge after sailing provides free entertainment!
